Saying Yes

Hey, hi!

As I mentioned in my #thisis22 post, I have decided that this year I am going to say yes to more experiences and opportunities that come my way.

I know the whole “Say Yes” campaign/idea has been around for a number of years but it’s something I haven’t every really been great at doing. There are a few different factors that have held me back from saying yes to things in the past. The main one being, I find it a wee bit, scary.

There we go saying yes scares me.

Why?

I don’t really know.

Obviously saying yes is easy in some cases. For example; “Amy, would you like Macaroni Cheese?” YES! “Do you want to leave work early?” YES! “Would you like fries with that?” YES!

The kind of conversation that would happen where I’d be scared to say yes would go a little something like this;

“Hey Amy, me and –insert name here– are going to –insert place name/ activity here– you can come along if you want.”

This is the kind of thing I would hum and haw over until settling on the good ol’ fashioned response of “Maybe”. A lot of the time I think it is down to me feeling like I’d be in the way, almost like an afterthought. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has these daft little thoughts.

Anyway, I’m done with the indecisive maybes and focus on saying yes! Unless, of course, I’m being asked to something I genuinely for good reason don’t want to do, like eat a salad.

#thisis22

22 (1)

Hey, hi! Welcome back!…yeah, that works.

Anyway, I promised last time that I was going to tell you a little bit more about that hashtag up there in all its ombre glory. So here goes!

I turned 22 on the 7th of April 2017 –I’m telling you this in case you’re reading this in the distant future, which you’re probably not– and for a lot of people that’s a pretty blah age to turn. Not for me. In my family we actually quite like the number 22, mostly my Mum and brother because their birthdays are on the 22nd of their respective months. I guess the fondness of it has just rubbed off on me and since I won’t be turning seven again, unless I start Benjamin Buttoning, I’ve decided to hijack 22.

#thisis22 started, surprise, surprise on my 22nd birthday. The expectation over the past few years when you turn 22 is that you post on some form of social media that you are “Feeling/Feelin’ 22”. Don’t get me wrong I did use that once, for the most part I substituted it with #thisis22.

I didn’t do anything flashy for my birthday, I don’t usually anyway. This birthday I spent the day in Glasgow with my Mum and as one does, I snapchatted throughout the day and, you’ve guessed it, each one featured #thisis22, well apart from the ones where I used #isthis22? Really though, they’re basically the same. I got so used to popping that hashtag on everything I was posting that as soon as the clock ticked past midnight and it was no longer my birthday, I couldn’t part with it. It sounds silly, that’s because it is but hey, I’m a bit silly!

So what does this mean for #thisis22? As cliché and gross as it sounds, I’ve decided that I’m going to do whatever I can to make this year the best year possible. The hashtag is just a little incentive to make it seem official and like something I can’t back out of hahaha! I’m going to try new things and say yes to new experiences, starting this blog was something new for me so I’m doing good so far!

Hopefully you’ll stick around and go on this journey with me.

Thanks for listening reading!

TL;DR I turned 22 and I’m going to do stuff through the year like this blog. #thisis22 is for funsies.

Welcome

hi

Hey, hi! Hello you! I just want to welcome you this here page of mine, it’s pretty basic at the moment but that’s how all good things start, right? With the basics?

Anyway, I’m Amy and I’ve decided to try my hand at this blogging lark. I can’t promise that I’ll be any good at it or anyone will be remotely interested in what I decide to post. HOWEVER – I can guarantee that there will be a lot of laughs…actually, I can’t do that either. Basically what I’m getting at is this could either go really well or, it could be a complete train wreck. Only time will tell. I hope it’s the first one personally, I cannot speak on your behalf though.

I hope to see you next time when I explain a little be about that nifty thisis22 hashtag up at the top.

Here’s to whatever this is and may become!
